Lentil with Vegetables
(Sobji Dal)
Generally lentil recipes are seen all over the world. It is very familiar recipe. Everybody likes lentil recipes. Lentil with vegetables recipes are very much familiar in south Asia. It is a very delicious and nutritious recipe. The cooking process of this lentil with vegetables recipe is as follows;
350 gm (12
oz) green papaya,
½ cup
string beans,
1 cup
chopped spinach,
1/3 cup red
lentils,
½ teaspoon
ground turmeric,
½ teaspoon
chilli powder,
½ teaspoon
ground cumin,
½ teaspoon
ground ginger,
¼ teaspoon
ground black pepper,
2
tablespoons chopped onion,
½ teaspoon panchforan,
2
tablespoons cooking oil,
Salt to
taste.
· Peel, wash and make cubes of papaya.
Cut the string beans 4 cm long and chop the spinach. In a saucepan, take all
ingredients except the onion, panchforan
and oil.
· Add salt and 2 cups of water. Cover
and boil till papaya and beans are cooked. Heat the oil in a pan.

Add
the panchforan, when the seeds pop,
add the onion and fry brown stirring constantly. Add the lentil boiled
vegetables and bring to a boil.
Serve hot with a fluffy boiled rice.
Yields 4 servings.
